Firstly I would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year!
Since its a brand new year, I hope that you all have
already set new goals and targets for yourselves, be it in your
studies, in band etc. Whatever it is, I'll wish you all all the
best and good luck in achieving them!

Next, some things you all need to know.
On Monday, 4th Jan, there'll be compulsory sectionals
at 2.15pm.
Since it's compulsory, you have to come! (To get your souvenirs from me also :P)
Please inform me if you all cannot make it or have to come late.
Okay anyway, by then you should've your files packed according to
the repertoire and also with bar numbers written.
And for the sec threes, there'll be some meeting thingy for you all on that day at 2.30pm.
So please be punctual! :D

Its absolutely compulsory for all band members (especially TOHYONGCHEN ) to come as we will be having the sec one orientation REHEARSAL. Anyway, I'm here to motivate you guys! :D
But before that, for the sec ones.

I know that you all feel that band practices are long
and boring and blahblahblah, but I just wanna tell the sec ones
that in about 2 weeks' time, you're gonna be sec twos,
and soon enough you're gonna have juniors. Which means, it's
time to change your mindset. There shouldn't be any
"OMG I HATE BAND" kind of attitude in you anymore. YOU
are going to be the ones leading the section and teaching
your new juniors. Just want to inform you guys that your fundamentals
are actually very very very weak. Can you imagine when your
sec ones ask you how to play certain things, you can't even do a proper
demonstration, and that you are going to be their role model and your
mistake are gonna be passed down to the rest of the younger generations?
You all should know that during sectionals, we don't even have time
to finish the pieces, so do you think we have the time to actually re-teach
the fundamentals from the start again? So please, I really really need
you guys to work on your fundamentals at home. Since you all can go online
almost everyday, why not take out one hour of your time to just do
something more worth it for yourself, as well as for the section, the juniors in future.
After so many months of tough practices, trainings, are you going to just
let all the seniors & your efforts go to waste? It's your choice. I hope you all will
start to think like a senior, and not still remain at the same spot after every practice,
thinking that there's nothing you can do since you're only a sec one. There are
limited things the seniors can do for you all, and we won't be there forever to
help you all. Once again, it's time you all change your mindset and start learning
to be independent. Of course I'm not asking you all to change right away, but I just want
to see a slight improvement every single practice.

Now, for the sec twos.
You all should know clearly in your heart that your standard right now
is not the standard you all should have. Even though I've reminded you all
time and again to do your score study, sing & fing, but ask yourself, have you?
I'm not gonna assume that you guys didn't, answer for yourself. Please start acting
like a senior, playing like a senior without me having to tell you guys to do
this and that. I believe that you all will know how to think for yourself, so I'm not
gonna write so much here for you all. Just to let you all know, the SIBF is
coming soon, and you both are going to take up one part each. If the standard in your attitude,
discipline and playing are staying at this level till you step down, then I can assure you,
you'll definitely leave the band with regrets. And by then you'll wish that you had
more time to do more for the section. But at the same time realising it's all too late.

But please do not take everything above as a scolding. Read it in a positive manner
and let it be used as a motivation for you guys to have the drive to work harder. The purpose of this post is also to let you all know what I actually think about the section and my aims for you all, with the hope that you all will do it for me and most importantly, yourself after reading it.
You all are definitely going to become good players one day, but it depends on you guys whether you want it.. If you all are gonna continue to think that that's the maximum you can go, you will definitely not make it. Please have an aim for yourself, something you want to achieve every practice, and make sure you done it at the end of the practice. So I hope after reading this, I will see improvement in the section, be it in your attitude or playing. Even if it is a slight improvement every practice, by the time you realised, you've improved a whole lot already.
SO PLEASE, DON'T DISAPPOINT ME AND WASTE MY EFFORT FOR TYPING THIS
WHOLE CHUNK OF WORDS OUT FOR YOU. (:

And on a more important note, PLEASE DO YOUR SCORE STUDY, ESPECIALLY ON EAGLE BEND. I'm emphasising it ONCE AGAIN, so please make sure you do it. Because there's
gonna be a test for you all as soon as band resumes.
For the rest of your homework for this break, please read the post below. (:

Finally, my aim for you all is that by the end of this month, your fundamentals must
strong enough, as strong as I expect it to be. If not.... :)

Hello Horn Members!

During this long break, you all have to SCORE STUDY your

- Fanfare of the wakakusa hill [must memorise]

Please use the 10 steps to score study huh! you all should have all the scores by NOW. If dun have, please inform those that you normally photocopy from to lend you photocopy. and also, write bar numbers and pack your file according to alphabetical order .

There's gonna be an UPCOMING AUDITION for all the songs stated above (: I hope all of you will practise very hard for this audition that is not too far away and i'm sure all of you will reap what you sow and do well :)

For the upcoming band prac, you must always be equiped with a competition-ready state and be prepared for the tough trainings. As for the sec ones, you should most probably be able to play confidently by now after all the numerous band practices. Your fundamentals are supposed to be strong by now. All of you are STRONGLY encouraged to do diaphragm training at home as you all know diaphragm training is a head start to be able to play well.

I want to see all of you having your notebooks by the next band prac. Please bring it along with you everywhere you go during the band practices. So whenever mr wong or anyone else talking ,
remember to take down the important points . don't leave ur notebooks in the cupboard and help collect dust!

DRILLS! by now , each and everyone of you shld know which one is turn left or right. Please practice at home. i dont want to see you all turn so slowly and march so sian-ly. and don't look at the people beside you to comfirm if its correct. You must do it confidently :)

Lastly, everyone will have to pay $5 for the band outing :)

Bar 73 - 94 ; Articulations - maccato (sp -.-) , and fp cresendo.

Bar 97 - 100 ; Articulations all the dynamics.

Bar 112 onwards ; Things that Mr Wong taught us that time -
Pulsing & phrasing.

Bar 130 onwards ; Articulations and dynamics, all the accent and practise bar 169 to the end.

Folk Song Suite~
Seniors :
Score study the whole of movement 1 PROPERLY.

Bar 1 - 6 ; Staccato and pulsing. For 1st/2nd horn : Staccato + pp for 5 & 6.

Bar 7 - 28 ; Pulsing and staccato, correct your rhythm.

Bar 29 - 64 ; Very easy since it's like the same rhythm repeating, so take note of the rhythm (all the half count rest)
and your notes, and the slur.

Bar 65 - 97 ; All the crotchet and minum, should be quite easy. Take note of phrasing and pulsing.

Bar 95 to the end ; Same as bar 29 - 64.

Continue to movement II if you've completed everything above.
(Take note the time signature is 3/4 :D)

Sec ones :
Bar 1 to 64 ; Figure out your notes, and try to add in the staccato when you all play.
Take note of all the slurs and dynamics.

Let's Swing~
For both seniors and sec ones.
Bar 1 - 93 ; Almost all the same rhythm, so add in the swing pulse that I've taught you guys.
Try slowly first, then go to the actual tempo ; 184.

Express out when playing ; master the semiquavers at bar 134, start at a slower tempo first.
Bar 155 - 158 ; Correct rhythm and fp cresendo to ff.

Try to connect at bar 40, it's like the question & answer part.

You can train your diaphragm! Do the blow paper thing, and then try on your instrument to see if it works.
If not, you can try the 2 octaves thingy we did on the last practice! As long as you play your instrument, it's fine with me. :D

to not have any of the following scores and/or no bar numbers, everyone
shall do punishment, which will be added on to the 60 you all owed me.
(If you forgot, the punishment was because of the list of songs for the
solo concert.)

Next, just a reminder that the bandstore will not be
opened on Monday and Tuesday! Yeah. You're supposed
to bring back your instruments on THURSDAY MORNING, to
sign it in. Do note that you're NOT allowed to bring
it to your class. Also, please do come back on

HELLOOOOOO. I've decided to post something here since it's kind of dead!
Yay me! Okay firstly, you all should know that...
Band will resume starting from next week. which means compulsory sectionals on Monday will continue too!
For those who brought home your instruments, you can bring it back on
Monday; the bandstore will be opened at 645am for you to sign it in.

I hope you guys have at least practised once, and did not let your instrument
collect dust! I know there are some problems faced when you all did
your score study, so the main motive of Monday's sectionals will be to
clear all your doubts first, before we move on to playing.
So please remember to bring back your file on Monday as well!

Next! Please pass your MCs/letters/photocopy of passport to me by the next
band practice which is Tuesday, if not your attendance will be affected and I will

PRETTY HORNS!!!!!!!!!

( pretty good and pretty expensive)

These horns are alexander HORNS widely used by professionals and are VERY expensive i can only dream of gettin one(fat hope) WELL anyways admire the design of the instrument sooo pretty right? BUT i heard it has alot of resistance so u need LOTS of AIR to plays these horns so do more horny yoGA!!

HEY heres something interestin these are FINKE french horns and the type of these horns are called BRENDAN. Familiar? LOL... look at the edge of the bells it is being designed on soooo nicely these are called garlands very nice hor =)

FOR those who are interested =)) heres are some info about the different alloys of the horns=)

ALLOYS

Brass: The standard with most brasswind instruments. Good durability and sound characteristics. (Yellow in colour not so pretty but very common)
Gold-Brass: Deeper in sound and colour. Softer and warmer in tone. (Erm looks like the golden horns in damai)
Nickel Silver: The hardest of the three. Produces a clear and bright sound( the ones dionne and keng yun are using currently)

SO there u have it pretty horns! so jealous that they are not widely available in SG.

LOL this is faifai speakin TOTALLY bored so i ll be "updatin" the blog on horn- related stuff and also on random stuffS.. i' ll try to restrain myself from being toooooo crappy. Hmm sooo enjoy and happy doing homework? (i dont have any HA) =)

Hmmm.... so far nothing interesting to say la hor i ll be back need to research on stuff for u kiddies btw i have a quote that u all might find insipring to PERSERVE and continue to work hard hehe

SO.. its the same concept in everything you do especially in the upcomin SYF =) and a question comes to my mind that u guys should ask urselves

DO u play the french horn and practise it bcoz

Your senior asks u to do it and play just for the sake of playin

Just so you can get a GOLD for SYF and get prestige

OR you want to be a great musician due to the great love towards the instrument

PASSION really makes a difference.. so i' ll be back =)

Hello! We had a hard time playing Ross Roy today because we need to play loud but our diapgragm is tooooooooooooooooooooooo weak. SO. We shall make sure that all of us, starting from NOW, train our diaphragm! How? By doing the horny yoga OFTEN. We must make sure that playing loud is not a problem to us so that we can concentrate on improving the tone and other stuffs. YAY. HORNY YOGA FOR THE WORLD! ^^ MEHMEHMEHMEHMEH.
Reminder : Notebook, Pencil, 2 mouthpiece with you at all timeeeees. :)
